Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett win sixth Wimbledon title

Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett were victorious once again at Wimbledon on Sunday, collecting their sixth doubles title at SW19 as a team.

The Brits started off with a win on No.1 Court against Martin De la Puente of Spain and Joachim Gerard of Belgium. Reid and Hewett got off to a quick start, taking the opening set 6-1 before having to battle back in the second set to secure the match 7-5.

Friday’s semi-final saw Reid and Hewett play Tom Egberink and Maikel Scheffers where the four-time champions got off to another swift start winning the opening set 6-1. However, the Dutch duo fought back to take the lead in the second set.

Facing a 3-5 deficit Reid and Hewett managed to stay in the second set to force a tie-break. There was little in the breaker as both teams took turns in taking the lead. Reid and Hewett fended off five set points before taking the win 14-12 to move into the final.

Sunday’s final would be a repeat of the 2023 final with Gordon and Alfie facing Japanese pair and second seeds Takuya Miki and Tokito Oda.

Once again Reid and Hewett took advantage of the match, winning the first set 6-4 before going down 2-5 in the second set.

For the third consecutive match, the defending champions had to find a way back into the second set. They managed to boost their level to force a second set tie-break where they would prevail 7-2 to clinch the second set and the Wimbledon title.

The win marks Gordon and Alfie’s sixth Wimbledon and Gordon’s one hundredth career pro doubles title.
