Calling all skating pros, amateurs, and those who have never set foot on the ice… A brand new rink has opened in Dún Laoghaire Harbour just in time for Christmas.
The town welcomed its first-ever ice rink during last year’s festive season, and now they are upping the ante with The Alpine Skate Trail.
Well-known faces laced up their skates to have a go on the ice when it opened its doors on November 1. Rosalind Lipsett brought her six-year-old son Theo and her niece Amelia along for a skate, sharing that the pair had ‘a brilliant time’.
Influencer Aoife Bermingham and TV presenter Seán Munsanje also made an appearance at the event, which saw Cafollas warm guests up with hot chocolates and sweet treats afterwards.
The trail boasts an ice track equipped with winding turns and thrilling straights. You can live your best Winter Olympics life as it promises to create a real-life skating feel, with Alps-style spruce trees, festoon lighting, and snow-covered chalets.
If you are an experienced skater, this track will be much more suited to your skillset than your average ice rink. However, if you don’t have Tonya Harding-level skills, never fret as there’s something for you too!
The Alpine Skate Trail offers a smaller rink for those less experienced skaters to warm up before tackling the main event. There will also be penguin skate aids at the ready for those struggling to find their feet on the ice.
The trail has arrived in Dublin after its success at Fota House and Gardens in Cork, which has attracted 300,000 happy skaters since its inception three years ago.
The Alpine Skate Trail is offering a limited amount of early bird tickets to celebrate its debut in Dún Laoghaire, which are currently on sale now for €14 per person on iceskating.ie.
You’ll have plenty of time to dust your skates off before it closes on Sunday, January 12. Happy skating!
