It marked a sixth straight league win to move Stephen Kenny’s Saints, third bottom when losing at home to Dundalk in early June, up to fourth place in the table and into European qualification contention.

A night of frustration for Bohemians was exemplified by Ross Tierney being sent off early in the second half to change the game. Bohemians thus remain four points ahead of Drogheda United, third from bottom of the table. A lively opening to the game brought clearances off the line at both ends early on before Bohemians spurned the chance of the lead on 16 minutes.

Redmond scuffed his clearance from Tierney’s low cross with Axel Sjoberg tripping Dayle Rooney to concede a penalty.

But there was a reprieve on the double for St Pat’s. Joseph Anang first pushed away Dawson Devoy’s poorly struck spot kick before Anto Breslin got back brilliantly to clear James Clarke’s follow-up off the line.

The home side’s frustration heightened within four minutes of the restart when Tierney, booked just before the break for a foul on Sjoberg, was shown a second yellow card and sent off for a clumsy challenge on Forrester.

St Pat’s opening goal came on the hour mark. Half-time sub Ryan McLaughlin and Zack Elbouzedi worked the ball in from the right to Forrester whose low drive took a nick off a defender to wrong foot Kacper Chorazka and hit the back of the net.

The Saints’ next goal came on 76 minutes when Elbouzedi’s corner wasn’t clear with Mulraney gathering the loose ball to blast a volley to the net.

Redmond added the gloss five minutes later, glancing a header to the net from Elbouzedi’s free kick.

Dawson Devoy’s fine strike a minute from time was mere consolation for Bohs.

Bohemians: Chorazka; Byrne, Carroll, Flores, Kirk; McDonnell (Piszczek, 77), Devoy; Meekison (Greive, 63), Tierney, Rooney (B McManus, 84); Clarke.

St Patrick’s Athletic: Anang; Sjoberg (McLaughlin, h-t), Redmond, Grivosti, Breslin (Kazeem, 78); Bolger (Leavy, 71), Forrester; Elbouzedi, Kavanagh (Palmer, 78), Mulraney; Keena (Noonan, 89).
