Shamrock Rovers have failed in a second appeal over Dawson Devoy’s eligibilty for Bohemians in an FAI Cup clash in July.

The Hoops exited the competition after a 1-0 defeat but appealed the outcome due to a dispute over Devoy’s availability.

The midfielder rejoined Bohs from MK Dons in July and made his debut in the game against their Dublin rivals.

He had a suspension from his time in England when sent off in the EFL Trophy, a competition which includes senior and youth sides.

The FAI did not deem Devoy was suspended for the FAI Cup and instead would serve a ban for the league game against Dundalk, which he subsequently did.

Devoy was highly influential in the cup game against Shamrock Rovers as Dayle Rooney’s penalty dumped them out of the competition at the first hurdle.

An Independent Disciplinary Committee rejected Shamrock Rovers appeal and the Hoops exercised their option to call a second hearing.

However an FAI statement confirmed that once again it has been rejected: “Following the conclusion of an appeal hearing, an Independent Appeal Committee has rejected Shamrock Rovers FC’s protest relating to Dawson Devoy’s eligibility in their fixture versus Bohemian FC in the Sports Direct Men’s FAI Cup on 19 July 2024.”

While the appeals have been heard, Bohs have reached the quarter-finals of the competition, beating Kerry FC on penalties.

They face UCD on Friday night.

Shamrock Rovers have yet to comment.
