The Social Democrats offices have been evacuated after a “suspect package” arrived this morning after a week of controversy.
The party offices on Frederick Street in Dublin were evacuated after a “suspect package” addressed to Eoin Hayes arrived.
It is understood gardaí are attending the scene and the offices were evacuated.
A bomb disposal unit have arrived at the building, a senior party source said.
The threat has been found to be “not credible” by gardaí.
However, officers are now investigating.
“Following enquiries, the alert was not found to be credible,” a garda spokesperson said.
The force was called to the party’s headquarters at around 10.30am this morning.
“Gardaí quickly attended at the scene and notified the army Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit,” said a party spokesperson.
“Our offices, and neighbouring buildings, were evacuated and the street was cordoned off while an examination was performed. The cordon was lifted at approximately 1.15pm and the package was removed by the EOD unit.
“The Social Democrats would like to thank An Garda Siochána and the Defence Forces for their swift response and assistance today.”
Mr Hayes faced controversy this week after it emerged he only sold his shares in an Israeli Defence Forces linked company which he previously worked for after he was elected as councillor.
Mr Hayes previously said he sold the shares before getting involved in politics. He has apologised and has been suspended from the parliamentary party.
A package addressed to Mr Hayes, the newly elected Dublin Bay South TD, arrived this morning and suspicions were raised.
Gardaí were called to the scene.
