Margaret O’Rourke has to stop to think about why, without any formal training, she decided to start making jewellery. It’s more than two decades since she began her business, MoMuse, selling small pieces from a stall in Cow’s Lane Market in Dublin’s Temple Bar, to where she is today, celebrating the 15th birthday of her shop in the ground floor of the city’s Powerscourt Townhouse shopping centre.

She could never have imagined it could come so far, she says now, as she puzzles over the sequence of her success. Before MoMuse, she had worked happily in advertising and luxury retail. She knew she was good with people, but there was no background or experience that said to her that she’d be so good at jewellery.
