Tenerife Tourism brought members of the travel trade and travel media together at Dublin’s Iveagh Gardens Hotel yesterday to meet with hoteliers and DMC’s to learn about the vibrant island.
Nuria Lorenzo Gutierrez, Coordinator of Promotion at Tenerife Tourism UK & Ireland, was joined by Samantha Fulton, Tenerife Tourism Corporation, Kathryn MacDonnell & Sara Rivero Lopez, from the Spanish Tourist office in Dublin and Laura Pena, the Spanish Tourist Board’s newly appointed Managing Director in Ireland.
While Tenerife is known for its beautiful sandy beaches and coves and long walkable promenade, Nuria and Samantha were eager to remind attendees that Tenerife has so much more to offer. The island is perfect for adventure seekers as the drive from Los Cristianos to the north takes a mere 90 minutes, where visitors can hike and marvel at the beauty of Anaga Rural Park with its Laurel forests. Tenerife is also home to Spain’s highest mountain, Mount Teide, which stands at 3,178m and two UNESCO World Heritage Site – La Laguna & National Park of Teide).
Tenerife also boasts 70km of beaches, 43 protected areas, 1,500km of hiking paths, Europe’s largest lava tube (Cueva del Viento) and stargazing opportunities at the National Park of Teide. The island offers incredible outdoor activities such as surfing, kayaking, diving, mountain biking, trail running, paragliding and golf at 8 different courses across the island.
If your customers are avid culture vultures, La Orotava, near Puerto de la Cruz, is a must visit, with its 500 year old churches, convents, balconies and gardens. The town of San Cristobal de la Laguna is one of Tenerife’s listed UNESCO heritage sites and is one not to be missed.
For those who enjoy sampling local food and wines, Tenerife offers an abundance of delectable eateries, including 5 Michelin-starred restaurants dotted around the island. Traditional Canarian dishes can be easily found, as well as Avant Garde and innovative restaurants for those who fancy themselves as connoisseurs of good food.

Hotel Jardin Tecina & Tecina Golf is located on the lesser visited, but not to be overlooked, island of La Gomera, which is a short 40-minute ferry ride from Los Cristianos. The hotel, which was built like a local village in the middle of a large garden, is currently closed while it under-goes a full refurbishment, with a reopening date set for early December, just in time for those seeking some Winter sun!
