The running joke in the Mayo squad in the days before the 2012 All-Ireland semi-final was that if Mickey Conroy kicked a point with his left foot, they’d beat the Dubs. Nothing surer.

Twelve minutes in, Aidan O’Shea popped ball into the corner between Hill 16 and the Cusack Stand. Conroy got out in front of Mick Fitzsimons and stopped on a sixpence, spun and, lo and behold, the prophecy came to pass.
