AN IRISH seaside town on the east coast is in for a huge boost after new plans for a “thrilling” facelift in the area.
Tramore, the popular seaside town of Waterford, is set to open its new Skate Park in the next two months.
Tramore has 5km of sandy shoreline with quality waves that are perfect for surfers year-round – and they have a skate park.
The skate park was built 20 years ago and comprises a number of demountable features.
However, the equipment is constructed from steel, fibreglass and timber, which had deteriorated in recent years and is now beyond its service life.
The Waterford City & County Council proposed the plan to extend and redevelop the existing skate park with extra features and a higher standard of quality.
And it will be very similar in size and concept to the recently opened facility at Fairlane in Dungarvan, Co Waterford.
The plan has been consulted with local skateboarders, helping out with which features and improvements are required to improve the facility.
The skate park will be using concrete forms that are designed to last a long time and will add publicly accessible outdoor recreational facilities to improve the visual aesthetic in the area.
The proposed new skate park will be formed in concrete, will combine elements of ramps, bowls and street plaza features to be constructed in concrete and has been designed with the specific needs of both novice and experienced skateboarders in mind.

And it is proposed to extend the area of the Skate Park to include the public footpath to the southern boundary of the site and to construct a new 2.4m wide footpath, providing easier access to the beach.
This means that the construction will remove six car parking spaces from the parking lot, which is positioned beside the current skate park.
The construction commenced on the Promenade on Monday, July 22, and is expected to be completed within eight weeks.
Waterford City and County Council stated that the park “will make for a thrilling skateboarding experience for boarders of all abilities.”
They also apologise to the locals as “some minor traffic disruptions” are expected along the Promenade area due to the construction of the site.
They added: “With some minor traffic disruptions expected along the Prom, Waterford City and County Council apologises for any inconvenience caused.”
Extra train services
Separately, extra trains have been announced for a big festival taking place next month – but there’s a warning for passengers.
Iarnord Eireann have confirmed that over 50 extra train services to and from Wexford during this year’s Fleadh Cheoil.
The decision was made to ensure more people can access the world’s largest Irish music festival, which is taking place in Wexford town from August 4 to 11.
Over 500,000 people are expecting to turn up at the event, where musicians and dancers from all over the country come together to perform and celebrate Irish heritage.
