The top scorers in Sligo club football will be rewarded for their efforts in this year’s championship with the announcement that John Kent Sports and Trophies will again be sponsoring a leading scorer competition in each of the Homeland Sligo Senior football championship, the Connacht Gold Intermediate football championship and the Connacht Gold Junior A championship competitions.

John Kent sponsored the leading scorer competitions last year when the winners were St Farnan’s Paddy O’Connor, Eastern Harp’s Caelan Hunt and Jack Lavin from Ballymote.

John was himself one of the leading marksmen in Sligo football during his illustrious career with club and county.

“I’m very pleased to have the opportunity to support the efforts of the best of our players. Scoring creates excitement in sport. A competition like this adds to the fun and the discussion around our games and we are fortunate to have many talented players in all the grades already hitting some big scores”.

Each winner will receive a specially commissioned trophy and a voucher for sporting goods of their choice.

Sligo GAA Treasurer Cormac Kearns said “John Kent has been an unstinting supporter of Sligo GAA and our clubs throughout the county for almost 40 years now. The leading scorer competition created lots of fun and debate last year.

“We are delighted to partner up for these awards again and a few of the prospective winners could do worse than pay a visit to John for his advice”.
