Congratulations to the School of Genetics and Microbiology, the School of Law and the School of Social Work and Social Policy who have all successfully renewed their Athena Swan Bronze awards. Additionally, the School of Psychology has made significant progress, advancing from Bronze to Silver Athena Swan award status. This achievement reflects their impactful and sustained commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Welcoming this news Dr Linda Doyle, Provost of Trinity, said:

“I am delighted to congratulate our Trinity Schools on retaining their Athena Swan awards, with some even advancing to silver award status. These awards reflect the tremendous dedication and commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion within our Schools.

I would like to extend my thanks to our Heads of School and Athena Swan Champions for their leadership and collaboration. I also want to acknowledge the invaluable support from our Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Office and our Human Resources team.

Well done to all our Athena Swan award recipients!”

In 2021, the Athena Swan Ireland Charter underwent a redevelopment in line with the findings of a national consultation. The 2021 Charter offers a framework to address gender equality more broadly and build capacity for evidence-based work across all equality grounds enshrined in Irish legislation.

Trinity now holds 15 Bronze and 3 Silver school awards, 1 Bronze professional unit award and an Institutional Silver award. Holding an Athena Swan award is a criterion required by the Higher Education Authority, many Irish research funders and aligns with the European Commission eligibility requirements for accessing Horizon Europe research funding.

Trinity will host the Ireland national Athena Swan awards in November 2024, in conjunction with Advance HE, and we look forward to celebrating the successes of our Schools at this event.
