Two people are being questioned today following the seizure of over €2.6 million worth of cocaine, as well as cash and drugs paraphernalia in county Dublin.
Gardaí from the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau stopped two cars in Swords at around 8.30pm last night.
They found 38 kilos of cocaine with an estimated street sale value of €2.6 million, €66,000 in cash, a cocaine press, money counters and other drug distribution equipment.
A 28-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were arrested at the scene.
They are being detained under anti gang legislation and can be questioned for up to seven days.
Gardaí say they were targeting organised crime activity as part of Operation Tara and have described the seizure as “significant”.
The Assistant Commissioner in charge of Organised and Serious Crime Angela Willis said gardaí believe the drugs were “destined for the Christmas social scene”.
She has asked people to “think before you use this coming holiday season, as consumption fuels supply and demand in this harmful illicit industry”.
“We all have a part to play,” she said.
