Securing the water supply for communities in Dublin remains a top priority for Uisce Éireann as works to reduce leakage and improve water supply to homes and businesses in Dublin 2 are successfully completed.
Works involved the replacement of 180 metres of ageing water pipes between the junction of D’Olier Street and Burgh Quay to the junction of D’Olier Street and Fleet Street. Now complete, the project will significantly reduce the amount of drinking water lost through leakage and improve water quality for homes and businesses in Dublin 2.
Highlighting the significance of these upgrades, Declan Healy, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann said, “We are delighted to have completed the works on D’Olier Street that will benefit homes and businesses across Dublin 2. Replacing these old and damaged water mains is a first step in tackling bursts and leakage issues which have been affecting homes and businesses.”
Declan added, “On behalf of Uisce Éireann, I would like to thank the local community for their patience and cooperation during these essential works.”
The works were carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by GMC Utilities Group Ltd.
This project was delivered as part of Uisce Éireann’s national Leakage Reduction Programme which continues to deliver significant benefits to communities across Ireland, including improved water quality, a resilient and sustainable water supply for customers, and considerable water savings.
This project is one example of how Uisce Éireann is working to reduce leaks every day. Fixing leaks can be complicated. We have over 63,000km of water pipes underground in Ireland – enough to circle the earth one and a half times. Most leaks aren’t visible, resulting in precious water being lost but we are making progress.
