United Airlines is significantly boosting its capacity on routes between Ireland and the United States, with a 40% increase planned for summer 2025. This expansion includes additional flights and upgraded aircraft, providing travelers with more options and enhanced comfort on transatlantic journeys.

Increased Flights and Upgraded Aircraft

Starting March 29, 2025, United will double its daily flights between Dublin and Washington D.C.’s Dulles Airport, increasing service from one to two flights per day. Additionally, the airline will deploy Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft on its Dublin-Chicago O’Hare route, offering a more modern and efficient travel experience.

Currently, United operates daily flights from Dublin to Newark Liberty International Airport and seasonal summer routes from Shannon to both Newark and Chicago O’Hare.

More Seats from Dublin

Karolien De Hertogh, United’s director of sales for the UK and Ireland, emphasized the impact of this expansion:

“Our substantial increase in capacity from Dublin means United will offer more seats from the Irish capital than any other US carrier next summer,” she said.

De Hertogh also highlighted the convenience of United’s extensive network:

“For summer 2025, our customers in Ireland will enjoy seamless connectivity via our hubs in New York/Newark, Chicago O’Hare, and Washington D.C., connecting to over 150 destinations across the Americas.”

Broader Transatlantic Expansion

This move is part of United’s broader plans to enhance transatlantic services in 2025. The airline is introducing new routes, including:

  • Newark to Bilbao, Spain
  • Newark to Faro, Portugal
  • Washington Dulles to Nice, France
  • Washington Dulles to Venice, Italy

JetBlue Expands European Connections

United isn’t the only U.S. carrier ramping up European services. JetBlue has announced its first-ever route to Spain, with a seasonal service connecting Boston Logan International to Madrid Barajas Airport from May 22 to October 24, 2025.

JetBlue is also introducing a daily summer service between Boston and Edinburgh, running from May 23 to October 25, 2025.

Next summer, JetBlue will operate flights to seven airports across six European cities from its Boston hub. This includes year-round flights to London Heathrow and Paris Charles de Gaulle, as well as seasonal routes to Amsterdam, Dublin, London Gatwick, and now Madrid and Edinburgh.

JetBlue at New York’s JFK

JetBlue will also expand its services from New York’s JFK Airport, offering flights to five European destinations in summer 2025. These include year-round routes to Amsterdam, Paris CDG, and London Heathrow, alongside seasonal services to Dublin and Edinburgh.

A Summer of Transatlantic Travel

With expanded routes, upgraded aircraft, and a focus on connectivity, U.S. airlines like United and JetBlue are offering travelers more options than ever to explore Europe next summer. Whether departing from Dublin, Boston, or New York, these enhancements reflect a growing demand for transatlantic travel and improved accessibility to iconic destinations.
