The food company is working closely with Food Safety Authority of Ireland after it became aware of the health hazard.

The affected snacks have fragments of a golf ball that were found to be present in a small number of batches.

It is believed that the material may have inadvertently been harvested with our potatoes.

This makes the products dangerous due to the risk of digesting some small golf ball fragments.

The brand of the recalled snacks is Tayto, and the Best Before Dates are 21/08/24, 22/08/24 and 23/08/24.

The types of affected snacks are the following:

  • Tayto Cheese & Onion 37g
  • Tayto Salt & Vinegar 37g
  • Tayto Cheese & Onion 6 pack (6x25g)
  • Tayto Variety 6 pack (6x25g)
  • Tayto Cheese & Onion 6 pack flashed €2.50 (6x25g)
  • Tayto Variety 6 pack flashed €2.50 (6x25g)
  • Tayto Cheese & Onion 10 pack flashed €3.75 (10x25g)
  • Tayto Cheese & Onion 12 pack (12x25g)

Customers who have purchased one of the recalled products are urged to discontinue use immediately.

It is unknown how many affected products were sold in Ireland.

Those who have purchased one of the recalled products should return it to the store of purchase or dispose of them in the bin.

A spokesperson for the firm said: “Tayto Snacks is issuing a voluntary product recall.

“Fragments of a golf ball were found to be present in a small number of packs from the below listed products. We believe this material may have inadvertently been harvested with our potatoes.

‘Precautionary measure’

“As a precautionary measure we are recalling all of the products with the best before dates detailed below.

“This precautionary recall has been initiated in the best interests of our consumers and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.

“We are working closely with the Food Safety Authority of Ireland and with our customers to ensure the potentially affected product is no longer available for purchase.”
