Urgent warning as batch of poppy seeds issued recalled over major narcotic fears

AN URGENT warning has been issued to Irish shoppers as batch of poppy seeds is being recalled over major narcotic fears.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) issued the product recall for safety fears.

The brand of blue poppy seeds affected is Aga Holtex Bakalie Mak Niebieski.

The product was issued a recall due to major concerns of elevated levels of levels of opium alkaloids.

Opium alkaloids are natural chemicals found in the opium poppy plant.

They have strong effects on the brain and body, and are most often used for pain relief.

The most well-known alkaloids from opium include the powerful painkillers morphine and codeine.

The product came in pack sizes of 200 grams, and it’s country of origin is the Czech Republic.

The batch code is 1180/1/44 with a best before date of 31/12/24.

The bar code of the poppy seeds is currently unknown.

The recalled product was issued the highest level of alert, and consumers are now being warned to not eat the poppy seeds due to safety concerns.

The FSAI said: “The above batch of Aga Holtex Balkalie Mak Niebieski (blue poppy seeds) is being recalled due to elevated levels of opium alkaloids.

“Consumers should not eat the implicated batch.”

Retailers are now being requested to remove the product from sale and display recall notices at point-of-sale.

Cheese alert

This comes as an urgent recall alert is issued for a popular dinner item over health fears.

A batch of cheese from Roma Formaggio da Pasta has been pulled from stores due to the possible presence of mould.

The affected item has a best before date of March 21, 2025.

It originated in the Netherlands and has a pack size of 80g.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland said: “The above batch of Roma Formaggio da Pasta is being recalled due to the possible presence of mould.  

“Recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale.

“Manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, caterers & retailers:
Retailers are requested to remove the implicated batch from sale and display recall notices at point-of-sale.

“Wholesalers/distributors are requested to contact their affected customers and recall the implicated batch and provide a point-of-sale recall notice to their retailer customers.

“Consumers are advised not to eat the affected batch.”
