USA vs Ireland preview, T20 World Cup 2024: All eyes will be on the weather as hosts United States of America face Ireland in their final Group A match of the 2024 T20 World Cup in Lauderhill, Florida on Friday. Thunderstorms have been predicted in Florida on Friday as well as on Saturday, which means the weather could significantly impact this game as well as the India vs Canada match on Saturday.
Should the USA vs Ireland match get washed out, then the co-hosts would become the second team from Group A to qualify for the Super Eight stage, along with India. That would also mean curtains on Pakistan’s campaign, with the Men in Green having won just one match so far.
USA began their campaign with a seven-wicket win over Canada before stunning Pakistan via Super Over. The hosts, however, lost the plot against India despite a fiery start with the ball when Saurabh Netravalkar removed both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Having said that, Saurabh has been USA’s best performer with the ball with four wickets, whereas Aaron Jones (141 runs from three matches) has been impressive with the bat.
Ireland, on the other hand, have almost no chance of making it to the next stage after losing their first to matches (Against India and Canada). What’s more, a bigger challenge await Ireland after the USA match, as they face Pakistan on Sunday. It’s the batters who have let the Irish down and they will hope for a better performance on Friday. The task will be cut out for Paul Stirling, the skipper, and Andrew Balbirnie when they walk out to bat. They would need to make use of the powerplay overs to get going for the side.
