Vikki Wall in action for Meath.

The multi-talented Vikki Wall has confirmed that she will return to Melbourne in the coming weeks to resume her Aussie Rules career, but she has not given up on her time in the Ireland Sevens programme, despite the crushing disappointment of missing out on the Olympics.

The two-time All-Ireland football winner with Meath was overlooked for a place in Ireland’s Olympic squad after converting to Sevens last year, but she is set to return to the setup in December.

Wall (26) will link up with North Melbourne again ahead of the new AFLW season, which is set to begin on August 30.

“I am still contracted (to the IRFU) but I am actually going to go back to Australia to do season nine and then I will be back in with the Sevens programme in December,” Wall told the Irish Independent.

“I am heading over in mid-August, back to North Melbourne.

“I really, really enjoyed it and obviously I had planned to go back last year before rugby became an option, so I’m really looking forward to getting back to it, to be honest.

“I think when you’re not involved in something it gives you a bit more perspective, and I suppose a bit more appreciation for it.”

Although Wall’s inter-county career remains on hold for now, the Dunboyne native said she will never close to the door on the possibility of lining out for Meath again in the future, but for now, her immediate focus is on supporting her Ireland team-mates in Paris this weekend before she makes the move back to Australia and returns to Sevens later this year.

“I am excited to see where I can push it (Sevens), so hopefully I can keep going and see what comes of it,” Wall added.
