ALONE is urging us to check in on elderly neighbours, friends and family.

Temperatures are set to plummet over the coming days in the latest cold snap.

Dublin falls under a Status Yellow alert this weekend and will see temperatures below freezing over the coming days.

Ahead of the extended cold weather, ALONE is urging us to check in on the elderly who are vulnerable.

“Knock in and call into somebody, just to say and wish them a Happy New Year,” says Frank Dillon, Head of Communications.

“While you’re there you might check if there’s anything they need. Don’t leave it to others because they might have left it to you.”

For the elderly living alone – Frank has this advice:

“Prioritise the important things, keep the heating on regardless of the bills. This is a public health issue.”

“Slips, trips and falls can have fatal consequences. After a cold snap, there’s a huge increase in infections.”

“Keep warm, keep safe and keep well – it’ll pass.”

The charity is actively seeking volunteers and can register on their website
