The Breakdown – The Weekend GAA in Review

In just 63 days the wheels appear to have fallen off Derry’s wagon.

They were out-fought and out-thought against Armagh on Sunday and having been listed among the favourites for Sam Maguire after winning Division 1 of the NFL, their season is now hanging by a thread ahead of their final round-robin clash against Westmeath.

Meanwhile, we’re down to the last 12 in the Tailteann Cup with Down, Kildare, Sligo and Fermanagh all topping their groups after wrapping up the round robin phase. Those four go straight through to the quarter-finals while eight other Tailteann Cup counties learned their fate after the draw was made for preliminary quarter-finals.

However, the story of the weekend was undoubtedly the success of the Offaly U-20 hurlers who defeated Tipperary in Saturday’s All-Ireland final in Nowlan Park in front of hordes of Faithful fans.
