Bohs fans were anxious about the culmination of the 2024 campaign with the prospect of being over taken by Drogheda United and entering a relegation playoff, but Saturday’s 2-0 win away to Sligo Rovers, with goals from Dawson Devoy and Archie Meekison, means that fans and players can relax for the last two games of a season which has been very forgettable, as Reynolds paid tribute to the supporters who travelled to Sligo in numbers despite the team’s awful form.

“We’re not in there celebrating staying up, it’s a massive club that shouldn’t be here, and the work starts now for next year that we’re not putting them through this again,” Reynolds said.

“We are really hurting, I have to say but we are safe now, we can build and look forward to the last two games as the pressure is off.

“I have to thank the fans for coming down, they were fantastic, we haven’t been doing great but they came down in their numbers and made some difference to the performance.

“Dawson and Archie are outstanding players, Archie came in in the middle of the season, trying to get going but he’s a really good player. We pushed Dawson up a little bit higher as Jordan Flores was back, you are looking at Paddy Kirk and Cian Byrne and Jake Carroll who were outstanding, and James Clarke up top was unplayable, it was a really good team performance.

“Kacper Chorazka has come into a new league and it’s been tough for him, obviously we haven’t done great but he kept going, kept his levels very high and he will get better, he has serious potential and we are delighted to have him for next season.”

Defeat for Sligo, along with wins for the top four of Shelbourne, Derry City, Shamrock Rovers and St Patrick’s Athletic, damages their hopes of a European place as manager John Russell admitted his side had been flat in the game.

“It’s not over yet, we have two games to go, we will review and reflect when it’s all over,, for me it’s about getting the bodies ready for next week, a massive Connacht derby against Galway United,” said Russell.

“Galway are having a really good season, there’s only a couple of points between us, it should be a really big crowd and we look forward to it.”
