As the brand lands in Brown Thomas, Limerick-based Greg Hall shares how he transitioned from making graphics for his music to creating knits and sportswear
‘It nearly kind of annoys me now that it’s become such a huge trend,” designer Greg Hall laughs as he describes how football jerseys have become fashion statements in the past few years. In case you’ve missed it, a combination of 2023’s Women’s World Cup, this past summer’s Euros, our continuing embrace of all things athleisure and the blokecore trend (styles typically considered men’s worn by women) have created an ongoing trend for sports jerseys — a look adopted by Rihanna, Dua Lipa, Kim Kardashian, Madonna, Donatella Versace, Miley Cyrus and Beyoncé.
Hall established his brand Pellador FC in November 2022, creating designs inspired by the football jerseys he so loved as a young boy growing up in Clare. “Initially it was probably a sense of nostalgia for me, looking back on the things that I was most interested in as a child,” he says of why Pellador is so influenced by sportswear. “The jerseys and the different design elements of them, stripes and crests and things like that. The appeal of it for me was because I’m interested in football. And I think they look cool, and they have history and context and nostalgia for me.”
