Where to play poker in Ireland: 5 poker nights for tourists.

There have been several surveys that have ranked Ireland as one of the most welcoming and friendly countries in the world.

It’s hardly surprising that the Irish have a preference for a wager when the culture lends itself to great nights out. The game of chance that runs through the nation’s conscience can be traced back to Celtic rituals in ancient times.

It’s also unsurprising that the upsurge in poker has a place at the high table of entertainment.

The conviviality of the Irish culture lends itself to the social circle and rising popularity of casinos. The following famous five offer some of the best poker fare.

While there is nothing like venturing out for Ireland’s cracking casino nights, there is also a considerable population who want home comforts to play online poker. Online poker rooms enjoy a larger share of the market in Ireland than land casinos.

One of the benefits is that there is still an evening to enjoy with social connections.

There are plenty of licensed operators that offer the thrill of the real thing with a mix of traditional and modern variants of poker. If you want to avoid the crowds but still have the entertainment, then this is a great option.

4. The Sporting Emporium Casino, Dublin – luxury casino with a feel for the poker of the 80s

The Sporting Emporium, just off Grafton Street, is one of the most luxurious casinos in Dublin. Its spirit is very much invested in recreating the feel of Irish poker in the 1980s.

The venue is right in the middle of the city and is a catch-all for so many poker players. The tournaments are legendary. However, times vary and should be checked on the website before arrival.

It’s certainly a venue that delivers a very classy atmosphere but also couples it with live sports entertainment on several screens to make the whole experience rounded. It is owned by Dermot Desmond, one of Ireland’s most successful-ever entrepreneurs.

You can also apply for membership online to speed up the process.

3. Carlton Casino Club, Dublin – Ireland’s “most beautiful casino” to play poker

Carlton Casino Club is one of the most attractive casinos to play as it has a stunning Art Deco design.

The owners opened the Club above their Dr Quirkey’s Good Time Emporium amusement arcade on O’Connell Street after a substantial refurbishment.  The site is very, very luxurious, with a casino and a private poker parlour.

There are poker tournaments which happen on a daily basis as do the cash games. The club is run under the brand of “Ireland’s most beautiful casino” and it is hard to argue with that claim.

One of the iconic sites for Cork citizens and guests is the Macau Casino Complex. The ample gaming space includes no less than 20 poker games and tournaments that run seven days a week. There is always something happening.

It has a very sophisticated feel which will appeal to seasoned players, but it also welcomes beginners as there is no membership needed to enter.

The venue is home to the World Series of Poker Tournaments in Ireland, and is based in Cork city centre. It has a reputation to keep and is often visited by casino royalty. The Macau is a true premier experience with a Chinese restaurant attached.

1. D1 Club Casino, Dublin – a hidden gem with a boutique poker feel

D1 Club Casino may be a smaller venue in Dublin but fortunately for poker players it is a facility that hosts some large events. These include the Cash League and Blue Chip Tournaments.

It is only minutes away from the city centre, but it is a hidden gem when discovered. There is a very professional vibe allied to a boutique service.

The only drawback for casual or serious players is that entrance to the gaming site requires a membership. This can also be set up online or when entering the premises and will immediately provide a free bet that can be utilised.

There is also an on-site bar and restaurant.

Address: 63 Dorset Street Lower, Phibsborough, Dublin, D01 F5X7

The warmth and empathy of the Irish will be seen in every one of the casinos above. Poker is a game that brings people together for craic and a good competitive time for those who love the skill element of the game.
