Is Cristiano Ronaldo playing vs. Ireland?

Ronaldo did not feature in Portugal’s first Euro 2024 warm up friendly as Martinez’s team won 4-2 against Finland and he remained on the bench for the 2-1 loss to Croatia.

Martinez has indicated he will play a part in this game to ensure the 39-year-old is up to match fitness ahead of the start of the tournament after netting 50 goals for Al Nassr last season.

Portugal vs. Ireland lineups, team news

If Ronaldo comes into the starting XI, he is expected to replace Goncalo Ramos as the central attacker for Portugal, with Joao Cancelo and Diogo Jota also tipped to rotate in for Martinez.

Portugal predicted XI (4-3-3, right to left): Costa (GK) — Dalot, Dias, Inacio, Cancelo — Fernandes, Palhinha, Silva — Jota, Ronaldo, Felix.

Portugal subs (9): TBC

O’Shea will also look to tweak his line up, with Jake O’Brien expected to start following a strong season at Lyon, alongside Tottenham forward Troy Parrott.

Ireland predicted XI (4-2-3-1 right to left): Kelleher (GK) — Coleman, O’Brien, O’Shea, Brady — Cullen, Knight — Doherty, Szmodics, Parrott — Idah.

Ireland subs (9): TBC

Portugal vs. Ireland prediction

Ronaldo scored twice to break Irish hearts in their last meeting in Portugal in a 2-1 World Cup qualifying win for the hosts. However, Portugal have won two and lost two since the start of 2024, and O’Shea’s Ireland could scrap out a draw here.

Prediction: Portugal 1-1 Ireland
