Adam Brennan, from Ignite Fitness in Delgany.

A Wicklow gym coach, now renown for hosting large-scale fundraisers, has scheduled perhaps his largest yet, with €35,000 already raised for their upcoming spinathon.

Last year Adam Brennan, who is a coach at the family-run Ignite Fitness Centre in Delgany, raised more than €60,000 for the Irish Cancer Society and Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association with his four-hour spinathon, the third annual fundraising event he has organised.

Before starting this year’s fundraiser, Adam’s spinathons had raised more than €112,000 for the causes that are close to his heart, with family members having experience both MND and cancer.

Now he and Ignite Fitness and their members are going all out to raise €100,000 in a five-hour spinathon on Saturday, June 22.

“The aim is that each bike raises €1,000 whether they have one person going for five hours, two people for two and a half hours, three people for an hour and forty mintues or four to a team for an hour and fifteen minutes, and we have booked 87 bikes already,” explained Adam.

“We are aiming to have 80-100 bikes and over 200 Ignite members, community and friends take part. After the huge success of last years event, raising €63,483 for two worthy charities, we are hoping to make this year even bigger.”

He added: “Thanks to the help of Jay from Go Gym and Colin from Powerscourt for their support with bikes.”

The online fundraiser has already surpassed €35,000, but the hope is to get to that magic €100,000 on the day.
