Two people were hospitalised after a car crashed into a parade vehicle during St Patrick’s Day celebrations in Co Laois.

The shocking event occurred as people gathered in Stradbally to enjoy the annual festivities this morning.

It’s understood a car hit a miniature steam engine with two people onboard which was part of a vintage vehicle parade throughout the town.

A garda spokesperson told sundayworld.com: “Gardaí responded to reports of road traffic collision on the main street in Stradbally, Co Laois at approximately 11.30am this morning, Sunday, March 17, 2024.

“A woman (30s) and a male youth were taken to Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

“No arrests have been made.”
