A woman in her 40s has been charged in connection with the death of her partner in Dublin earlier this month.

Olesja Hertova, with an address at Hasting Lawns, Balbriggan, appeared at Dublin District Court in relation to the death of James Ryan.

Gardai say Mr Ryan, who was in his 60s, was found with serious injuries on a residential road in the Balbriggan area in the early hours of Saturday 10 August.

Emergency services attended the scene, and he was taken to Beaumont Hospital where he died a day later.

Ms Hertova, 48, was charged with causing serious harm to Mr Ryan.

Detective Garda Stephen Hughes from Balbriggan Garda Station gave evidence of how he arrested Ms Hertova at 4.07am and that she made no reply when the charge was put to her.

He also told the court that further charges are coming on submission of the investigation file to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The court heard how Ms Hertova, a Czech national, was a carer for Mr Ryan who had Parkinson’s disease and COPD.

The court was also told he was a former member of the Defence Forces.

Det Garda Hughes said gardaí were objecting to bail on several grounds.

Judge Monika Leech remanded Ms Hertova in custody with consent to bail with a number of conditions and on her own bond of €5,000 and an independent surety of €10,000.

She is due before the courts against next Wednesday 4 September.
