Jess McGuinness, who lives in Drumcondra, decided to clear out some clothing by donating it to the St Vincent de Paul (SVP) charity shop in Killester.
“So I went away on holiday, and like many people, I decided I should put my ring in a safe place under the bed. I had a couple of pairs of jeans I was donating, and I put the ring in the coin pocket,” she said.
“I was off last week with my kids, who were back to school, and decided to donate some bits to charity. I donated three pairs of J Brand jeans which were fine, but I wasn’t wearing them, so I thought it would be nice to give them to the charity shop.
“I was supposed to get the ring out of the clothes before I donated them, but I had a lot going on and completely forgot.”
The donation was made at 3pm on Thursday, August 29, with Ms McGuinness only realising after she had driven off that she may have left the ring in one of the items of clothing.
Unfortunately, when she returned to the charity shop, some of her items had already gone.
She donated a pair of pink H&M shorts, three pairs of J Brand jeans – in blue and navy – and a pair of grey frayed jeans from Topshop, along with various other items.
The ring is of great sentimental value, as it was a present from Ms McGuinness’s husband and two sons for her 40th birthday.
She also completely turned the house upside down in an effort to find the ring, so is convinced it must be among the donated clothing.
The ring has now been missing for a week, but she’s hopeful that someone will come forward and is willing to offer a reward for its return.
Ms McGuinness added that she has seen the “kindness of people” who are sharing her post, as well as the charity’s efforts to help her.
“I wanted to be charitable and make a donation, but I didn’t exactly have that in mind,” she joked.
The Society of St Vincent de Paul said the ring could be in the pockets of one of several items of clothing: blue J Brand jeans, navy J Brand jeans, grey Topshop jeans with frayed hems, pink H&M shorts, or a khaki hooded Zara jacket.
“The ring is likely hidden in a side pocket or coin pocket,” they added in a post of their Facebook page.
