Kirkistown Castle star Beth Coulter is relishing next week’s 121st Women’s Amateur Championship in Portmarnock as her confidence grows after undergoing a small swing change.

Coulter saw some positive signs during the final round of the Flogas Irish Women’s Amateur Championship in Woodbrook last Monday and she will head to North Dublin bullish about her chances.

The Men’s Amateur in Ballyliffin proved disappointing for the Irish with just two players of the 26 making it into the knockout stages with home interest ending in the last-32. Coulter has eyes on an all Irish final in Portmarnock next weekend.

“I think it’s really cool, it was in the north a couple of years ago in RCD but I was a little bit too young. It’s going to be great, we have some really good players playing really well,” said the Arizona State student.

“It’s going to be really cool and hopefully we can have an Irish winner. In the matchplay it would be cool to have a few of us in the quarter final and semi final. An all Irish final would be unbelievable and I think it’s possible.”

Coulter believes the Irish players will have an advantage when it comes to teeing it up in Portmarnock on Monday.

“If it gets a little bit windy I think we can have an advantage. We’ve played there a good bit and it’s a course you need to play before so it’s going to be exciting.”

Coulter has a good record in Amateur Championships, reaching the quarter final of the Women’s Amateur in 2023 and the last-32 in 2022 while she was also a runner-up in the 2021 Girls Amateur Championship so she is very comfortable with the 36-64 format.

“The strokeplay is about getting out there and seeing the course a little bit more and posting a score and getting up to the top and giving yourself an easier chance in the matchplay as possible. I really like matchplay it really suits my game on links because that’s what I’ve grown up on.”
