Left-arm seamer Yash Dayal has finally broken the silence on getting the big wicket of MS Dhoni in the IPL 2024 match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings. The match was played at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

With 17 needed off the last over and MS Dhoni on strike, Dayal was given the ball by RCB’s captain Faf du Plessis. It was a huge task for the young quick who was against the best finisher the world had ever seen. Adding to this, Dhoni was in belligerent hitting form all throughout the season.

Dhoni hit the first ball for a six to bring the equation down to 11 off 5 balls. Now, the scales had tilted in CSK’s favor and Dayal was under tremendous pressure. But the youngster kept his composure and bowled a slower ball to deceive MSD in the next ball and got the big wicket.

After getting the wicket, Yash Dayal breathed a huge sigh of relief. The CSK supporters on the ground were stunned while the RCB supporters exulted in joy. But there was one question in everyone’s mind. Is this the last time the great MS Dhoni is seen on a cricket field?

During a recent podcast with Jatin Sapru on his YouTube channel, Yash Dayal remembered the frustration of MS Dhoni when he walked out off the field. He revealed that he was relieved but did not feel good after dismissing Dhoni as it might be his last match as well.

“I felt bad after dismissing him. Because I don’t know or care what people say but the frustration with which he left the ground, it was like you don’t know whether he will return or not. Will we ever see him again on the ground. It was a moment where a lot of things were going through my head. I got a breather, a bit of relief,” Dayal said.

After the match, Yash Dayal had already revealed how Virat Kohli’s advice helped him get the big wicket. He was initially going for the full-paced yorkers but was missing the mark. However, Kohli advised him to stick to his strengths and bowl slower balls into the pitch.

Yash Dayal held his nerves

With 11 needed off the last 4 balls, the match was still on with Shardul Thakur and Ravindra Jadeja at the crease. But he bowled exceptionally well and kept the ball away from the arc of Shardul Thakur and Ravindra Jadeja to win the match for his side.

“With 11 runs needed off 4, I was like why I am even looking at the scoreboard. I shouldn’t. I should just focus on my bowling. Shardul bhai was on strike. Virat bhai said, ‘don’t give pace, nor bowl right onto his bat’. I told him right now it’s like peanut butter falling from top. Anywhere I want to bowl, I will I have so much confidence,” Dayal added.

The win took Royal Challengers Bengaluru to the playoffs where they lost to Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator. It was a memorable win for the RCB who had won a do-or-die match to qualify to the next stage. It was the sixth win in a row for RCB who dramatically made it to the playoffs.
